Andrew07 is on a distinguished road
Default Just got Komplete/Starting with MIDI

Well, my buddy did but he installed it on my comp

My first question- why are there so many installation discs? I installed disc one and it looks like the libraries were installed too

Does anyone here program keyboard stuff or do you play it live? I have decent piano skills, but would like to try programming some synth stuff as well.

We dove through everything but Battery and Kontakt last night.

When I play something on the keyboard I can hear a (basic) drum beat in my head, but I don't know how to make it come out of the computer. These are for electronic not acoustic drums BTW. Should I map it in Cubase, load samples in Battery and play it that way? Or is there a way to program in Battery? I'm not good enough to track it all live with my M-Audio keyboard

Oh wow I guess this pack even comes with DVD tutorials!! NIIIICE

Anyway, I'd appreciate your guys suggestions and help to get me jump-started into the magical world of MIDI

The libraries for Kontakt are 13GB if memory serves me. I thought Battery multiple GB as well.

If you haven't installed all the discs, you haven't installed all the libraries.

The name says it all. Komplete is a freaking powerhouse. It doesn't have everything, but it's pretty damn close to everything. It's a tremendous way to get started.

Use Cubase. Press F11 and setup your midi instruments. Create a midi track, set the midi track's output to Battery or whatever, draw some of the track (I think it's shortcut is "6", but I always forget). Then, right click on the track and select MIDI > DRUM EDITOR or something like that.

Then program away. To make a super simple beat, put the kicks on beat 1 and 3 and the snares on 2 and 4. You'll figure out the rest from there.

Some people use the keyboard for this. I prefer programming, but would really prefer to have a real drummer and an E-drum kit. I just haven't gotten around to buying one.
