Exclamation how to route midi controller?

as the name suggests,, im a novice,, well here goes,,if anyone can help me
im trying to route my keyboard,, an old yamaha psr 240 into reason,,version 1
ive followed the help in reason and assigned the keyboard,, connected via usb to the sequencer
however ,, there is nothing happening
i dont really understand midi implemetation charts so maybe ive assigned the wrong channel
also when i check in device manager under usb sound device there are a number of options which im not sure to choose to configure properly
if anyone has any advice ,, it would be greatly appreciated
thanks
Dan

Default Re: how to route midi controller?

I'm not a Reason user so my advice may be too generic.

I'm fairly certain you'd need drivers installed for the MIDI controller to work through USB. From there, Reason should detect it. I'm not sure how Reason's sequencer works, but in Cubase you create a new track and select the input (the MIDI controller) and you are off to the races. You have to route the MIDI track's output to a virtual instrument, but other than that it's very straight forward.

The channels come into place when you have an instrument with more than one channel. (I don't have too many of these).
