What tone are you asking about? The synth?

It sounds like a "normal" synth to me. I'm more of a guitar tone idiot than a synth tone idiot. I'm sure that Native Instruments FM7 or FM8 has it and if they don't Pro-53 does.

looking at the Houston Calls website, it look like the keyboardist uses a Korg MS2000B. similarly, looking at the Enter Shikari site, under their videos in the studio, it showed a brief image of the Micro Korg being used. so i'm assuming those were used on the songs you listed (sounds like it could be the case).

both are analog modeling synths, so in that respect, you can look at some softsynth plugins to use in conjunction with the keyboard you're getting -- the MOTU MX4 ($279) gives you analog, FM, and many other options for synthesis.

like brandon suggested, the Pro-53 will work, as well. check it out in action -- YouTube - keybdwizrd - Pro-53 Demo #1 (softsynth) -- looks like there are some other videos/tutorials on YouTube for the Pro-53, check those out if you're interested, and you should be able to try out a demo from the NI website.

be wary, those things are friggin' confusing at first...still are, to me...

i'll dig into some old data discs and see if i have an old freeware demo of something similar...if i do, i'll send it to you so you can try it out.

Yes. The soft synth road fits my style of working just fine and I think the VSTs out there sound great. There are some purists that get all wound up about hardware synths, but I don't think it's worth the trouble (time / cash).

Hell, even the electric guitar stuff has gotten excellent via plugin and I didn't think I would be saying that until 2015.
