Question fade in and out in midid editor

Hi - newbie user here! I think I'm doing OK so far - only a few chunks of hair ripped out in dispair.

I'm using cubse SE and my question is as follows:

I have a VSTi rhodes parts which I open up in the midi editor. I can't work out how to make the recording fade in and out. It seems easy on an audio track - I just open the editor and process the audio.

Any help would be much apprciated.

Thanks - Jus

You need to use Continuous Controllers to control variables in MIDI parts. Volume is cc7. You'll find the controller lanes in your part, at the bottom. There is a standardized list of controllers, but not all VI's will respond to all controllers. Volume is about as stardard as it gets though, so you should be okay.

thanks Richiebee - I was kind of poking around that area of the midi editor but got a bit lost. I'll give it another go tonight.

Thanks - Jus

I'm curious what you are going to use this for. I'm certainly not a MIDI expert, but couldn't you achieve the same things with volume automation?

Sure you could if you wanted to. In this instance it probably doesn't matter, but if you have, well, lets say 8 parts in a Kontakt instance and they come into Cubase as a single stereo output. In order to mix the parts individually, you'd need to use MIDI controllers.

MIDI controllers have many more functions than volume. If you're not using them, you're seriously missing out.

ah yes...automation. As I said I'm new to all this and automation is next on my "to learn" list. Wish me luck!

Good point.

Interesting. I'll toy with these the next time I'm wasting time.

Hi again - just to say thanks! Automation is now my middle name...shame my midi keyboard died just when I started to get the hang of it.
