Re: EZ way to make EZDrummer backing tracks
dfh is virtual instrument, its compatible with most plugin formats ie. rtas, vsti. The way i use it in pro tools is open up a stereo instrument track or a midi track if you prefer to use it that way. Then i open up the grooves and find ones that are most suited for my song, but most of the time i manually enter the midi data on the grid. Once i have the midi drums programmed how i want them i insert seperate mono audio tracks for each drum, and i usually use a stereo track for the overheads. Now here is where it could be tricky for you, the mixer window in dfh is a pain, so what i do is route the output of each drum in the dfh mix window to there own track, you have 8 outputs i believe, then in my pro tools mixer i assign the inputs of the corresponding audio tracks to match the dfh mixer ie if the kick drum is going out of dfh on 1 you would assign the input of the kick drums audio track to 1 and then set you output to stereo, so basically your sending the midi info from the output of the dfh mixer to the input of an audio track in your daw, so you can bounce the midi info to real audio. now i just bring up all the levels in the dfh mixer, so everything is at about the same level and i make sure nothing is clipping, then i record enable each audio track and bounce the midi info to the audio tracks. Now i mix the audio of the drums within protools and with each drum on there own track you can now properly mix the drums, you can also use the drumagog plugin which is a drum sound resampler and resample each drum to get the sound you are going for, which is what i do, i know this is a jumbled mess the way i explained it, but its really not that difficult, and you can achieve some really amazing drum tracks going this route. hope this helps
