Well, I guess I should be more clear, my version of LE was 1.0.something and comes free with cheap interfaces. LE 4 is a bigger boy version of that and has more of the full feature set. Apparently too, it has the d&d with EZD capability. My version of LE did have the LM-7 drum kit and the bass module, but no synth.

thanks so much for the reply. i tried doing this too, i tried to download some vsts but it just doesnt work.. But i think theres something im doing wrong. I tried to do everything in the manual and i still dont get the midi to sound. I also tried this Halion thing and I also downloaded the halion package to be sure and it still doesnt work.. But im sure theres something im doing wrong I just dont know what... Could you guide me through the steps on what to check and do so that i could hear my midi playback?

here's what i've done so far:

1. exported programmed drums from Guitar Pro 5 to Midi
2. opened a new project in Cubase LE
3. added an instrument track(used the Halion option)
4. dragged the midi file to the instrument track

but when i play it, i still dont get sound. when I open the presets in the Halion control, I just couldnt see any file even though I installed the halion package already(im currently using Mac OSX)

please help... I really am on the end of the rope here... Im planning to get the EZdrummer but if I couldnt get through this problem, I dont think that it would be easy for me to use the EZdrummer..

thank you and I really appreciate any reply

Ok, first, I don't know what "used the Halion option" means...

And that sounds wrong - potentially. Let's forget Halion, EZDrummer... let's just talk about midi and VSTi (that's software based instruments) in general.

For any midi driven VSTi you need to take care of 2 steps. The two steps will create TWO TRACKS - in your DAW (cubase). The two steps/tracks are:

1 - A good old fashioned midi track

2 - A VSTi track

Now, to get them to work together... you put the midi notes in the midi track and SET IT TO "DRIVE" the VSTi track. Easy.

So, in your case,

A - import your midi file into cubase. Cubase will create a midi track with all the midi notes in it. That's part 1 taken care of. Now part 2...

B - go to the "out" setting on that same track you created above and click it. Your VSTi should popup in a list. Choose it! That, my friend, should be part 2 taken care of.

If by any chance your VSTi does not popup in the list then all you need to do is bring up the VST Instruments window (press F11 key) and click on an empty slot and add your VSTi to the list. Once you've done that you can close the VST Instruments window. Now go do step B above.

Now... if it still doesn't work, then your basic midi/audio setup is probably not working... in which case I'll defer to others (and suggest you read your manual from page one).

Hope that helped.

But wait, there is more - I had to do some diddling with Halion when I first installed Cubase to get it to find it's presets. Something I had to do refresh the path. I'll try and find my post on that and put it here.
