Default EZ Drummer Question... Please help...

Hello There,

Im planning to get the EZDrummer software from Toontrack and I was wondering if its possible that I program the drums in GuitarPro5 and export them into a midi file and import the midi file in Cubase LE and use the Drum sounds in EZDrummer so that the drums I programmed would sound real?

Thank You and I really would appreciate any answer or comment... I really need help on this I hope that anyone could spare time to reply to this post. Thank You and Godbless

-Louie

I'm not familiar with GuitarPro5 but the web site says that you can export standard midi and Cubase LE will import standard midi so you should be in business. If you really love writing drum lines in GuitarPro5 that's great but if not you might just consider using Cubase's drum pattern editor. It's quite nice.

When you import a midi file Cubase creates a new midi track. You then select ezDrummer as the VST instrument for that track.

thank you very much for the advice man, Im planning to get the exDrummer software next week. But now I just tried to export the midi from guitarpro and import it in cubase... But when I tried this I couldn't hear the sound coming out of my headphones when it comes to playing the midi track, but I could hear my recorded guitar parts...
I exported a Midi Drum track from Guitar Pro 5 and when I import it in Cubase and play it, I couldn't hear the sound coming out. It know that I correctly imported the midi because whenever I play it I could see the monitor bars moving so that means I imported it right, but when I play it I could get no sound from my headphones... Is there anything i'm doing wrong?

Did you assign the Cubase midi track to an instrument? A midi track will only make sound if it's driving an instrument such as a VSTi or a hardware synth/drum machine connected to your computer. The snapshot above shows how you assign the instrument to the track.

I guess thats the thing I'm missing... I dont have a synth/drum machine hardware so i have to go with the VSTi. What is the VSTi and where could I download these programs and how does it work? ... are there VSTis that are free to download? Since I dont have the EzDrummer software I'm going to give this one a try.

Search Google for free vst drums or check out MadTracker - VST Plugins Don't expect too much from a free drum plugin though. You don't get very realistic results until you get into libraries that have a decent sized set of samples. ezDrummer is a great product. You'll love once you get it.

Depending on which version of Cubase you have it should have a drum module called LM-7 or something along those lines. I think I even had that in LE. I got EZDrummer and I love it. One thing with LE though - you will not be able to drag and drop midi loops directly from EZDrummer into Cubase - you would have to browse to the directory where EZD stores it's midi loops and import them as a midi track. Then you would assign them the VST instrument of EZ Drummer. Not a major hurdle, but not as easy as picking a pattern and dragging it into Cubase. Let us know what you find out.

That's interesting that you can't drag from ezDrummer into Cubase LE. I'm using LE 4 on a Mac and I can drag directly from the ezDrummer Groove list into a Cubase Track.

p.s. When I installed LE 4 on my Mac I did not get any Steinberg VSTi. I thought that was odd but since I never use the free instruments from Steinberg I wasn't too concerned. When you install LE on a PC does it install Steinberg VSTi's such as LM-7?
