Unhappy Dtxpress Help!!

Hi,

I have a Yamaha DTXPRESS IV and I recently purchased a usb midi interface off ebay for $3.00. I have Acid Pro 7 and Cubase as well.

My goal is to be able to record me playing the drums, through midi. I have absolutely no idea what I am doing, by the way!

I have unsuccessfully tried a few things already.

My usb midi interface has to 5 pin midi outputs (IN and OUT), but my DTXPRESS only has one MIDI OUT. I'm not sure which wire to stick into that in the first place.

I somehow got Cubase and Acid to recognize the midi controller, but there was no sound when I started to record!

Can someone please help me and teach me, step by step, how to record the drums through MIDI using the YAMAHA DTXPRESS?!

Thank you!

Well if it's working your not going to hear any sound, just get midi signals.

You would make it sound be sending the midi signals to a VSTi like EZdrummer etc.

Plug a cable from the midi out of the drums to the midi in of your interface.

If you have to install a driver for your interface, do that, then you should see it in cubase as an input for a midi track. After you instantiate a VSTi (F4) it should be available as an output to the midi track.

Then you should hear some sound.

If it's not working I would suspect the interface, I've heard of people having problems with the super cheap. Hopefully it will work.

You want to record the sounds you hear in your dtxpress module right? To do that you'll need to get AUDIO into your computer, and you'll need an interface for that.
First you have to understand the difference between midi and audio. Midi is just a collection of messages that your module can send, and it uses a midi cable..but like tacman said it has to trigger something, so that would be some kind of a drum vst in your computer. Audio is a waveform, and can be recorded directly. You would have to send the 1/4" outs of your dtxpress into an interface and then into your computer.
