Default cubase playback midi delay

i am using cubase sx3, a e-mu xboard through usb, and superior2.0. the drums trigger exactly when i press a key and i am able to play on time. but when i record, then play back, there is a huge delay in cubase. like .23 on the markers in cubase it lags behind. what can i do to fix this? i dont want to move the track each time i record something with the midi board!!!!!

Thumbs up Re: cubase playback midi delay

I think i can help with this one, i had the exact same problem and asked the forum for help.

I posted this question in the forum a few months back in the Cubase section, great spot for Cubase answers.

Help arrived from Alan who sorted it out perfectly. I have put in the reply for you hope this does the trick.

I had this same EXACT problem, I'm telling you it's this - I now have the details I didn't have before.
Go to Device Setup/Midi port setup
Click both checkboxes - Use System Timestamp for Windows Midi Inputs
- Use System Timestamp for Direct Music Inputs
From the help dialogue

"If timing problems with the recorded MIDI events occur with your operating system, try activating the "Use System Timestamp" options.
All MIDI interfaces timestamp their data before supplying it to the application. The application uses these timestamps to position incoming MIDI events in the sequencer. There may be situations in which these timestamps are not in sync with the internal time information of the sequencer, so recorded MIDI events will not be positioned correctly (usually, they occur "too late"). When you activate this option, the sequencer ignores the MIDI timestamps provided by the interfaces (for Windows MIDI and Direct Music inputs, respectively) and generates new timestamps (using the actual system time) for all incoming MIDI data"

Default Re: cubase playback midi delay

edit: actually....

the playback is a lot closer after doing this, but its still a tiny bit off. just slightly off, like milliseconds, would this have to do with my system latency with my firepod and computer etc.?? its ANNOYING!

I don't that software...

Lets see,, midisoft... a software sound module of some sort?

If it is that takes time. Lot of processing going on.

Then it's all about the latency of your audio hardware, having your software setup right and the horsepower of your computer to get low enough latencies to where you don't notice it. 4-8ms would be nice.

Describe your setup.

I'm really not sure how to adjust the latency...........Would like some help on that............You can download the software I'm refering to with this link MidiSoft Studio 4.0 ......Unbelievable, but it free with a donation...I did purchase mine some time ago from the company...... Would appreciate any help you can give in adjusting the latency......Thank's a million

It should be a setting in your interface control panel.

I can adjust it from cubase but it's actually just adjusting the control panel for the emu hardware.
