Question Cubase LE and problem recording MIDI

Hi !

I just started recently with MIDI recording in Cubase LE.

After 2-10 sec after pressing Record button the Cubase hang up completely.
The only solution is to go to Programm MAnager and End Tack for Cubase. It happens not everytime, sometimes I can record 1-2 min of MIDI properly. Sometimes it records the acual notes, but put all of them at the first bar at the beginning of the track.

I would be really grateful if somebody would tell me what to do.
Many thanks.

I use the following configuration
Roland HP107e
Presonus Firebox
Cubase LE,
Windows XP, 2.8GHz/2Gb

What is your latency set on?

What is your CPU usage?. (F12, I think....maybe F11)

Hi !

thank you.

latency is 1.5 ms
CPU usage is not overshooting anyway - 5-10%.

Hope it would help to solve the problem.

That is VERY low. I usually have mine around 5ms or so. If I were you, I'd crank it up just a little bit just in case.

Hmm. Okay, if the CPU usage isn't high, then the issue is probably not your computer.

What about audio? What happens if you record audio from a microphone or whatever?

Thanks, I know that this is very low, however I do not have any problem
with audio recording, even 4 lines simultaneously, so I thought MIDI is
less demanding. I never had any issues during audio recording with
that setup since I started, so I guess it has something with MIDI per se.

I shall try longer times of cause.

MIDI IS less demanding. VSTi's (synths and samples) are ROBO DEMANDING!!! What synths and / or samples are you using? Try recording some MIDI without triggering anything. No sound should come out, but this may let you know if the VSTi is causing the problem.

Sorry to ask the obvious ... but?

Have you checked where your start and end markers are? More especially if you have punch out activated

Hi!

the problem seems to be in Firebox. When recording MIDI via Roland USB connection directly to Cubase (not via MIDI Firebox) there is no problem at all.

I also install new Cubase LE4, but it did not help.

Thanks anyway!
