Default computer keyboard polyphony

I am using a normal computer keyboard with midi programs and I can never good good polyphony with it it randomly decides to let me have 2-5 polyphony and its really freaking annoying. Its just a regular qwerty keyboard. Is it possible to overcome this and have more polyphony. I really want to work on chords and voice leading at work. Thank you for your consideration and god bless.

It might vary from keyboard to keyboard but I suspect that a typical qwerty keyboard does not transmit multiple simultaneous pressed keys. If each key press was perhaps slight behind the previous one then you might be able to play something approximating chords but you'll probably be happier just asking your boss to buy you a midi keyboard for your work computer.

Most any qwerty keyboard has a limit of how many simultaneous keypresses it can register. This varies between different models of keyboard, but it is a hard limit based on the way the keyboard's input circuitry is designed.
