Default Attempting to understand midi uses?

Hi,
My name is Geoff and this is my first attempt at using a forum.
My situation is this; I play a tenor horn in the local brass band, get bored practising on my own and would like to use my Technics SX-GX3 electronic organ to provide a backing. Basically, the organ has midi facilities, many instruments, rhythm sequencing etc., including 'in, 'out' and 'thru' connections.
I also have a computor program for writing musical scores.
This question maybe outside the scope of this forum but would it be possible, with the equipment I have, to connect them together and produce a backing disc?
More information can be provided should this be necessary.
Many thanks, in eager anticipation.

Yes, you should be able to. I guess the cheapest way to do it would be to get a USB to MIDI cable so that you can get your scores to the organ. You'll also want an audio cable to go from the organ to the computer so that you can record the result (MIDI doesn't make any sound itself). You might find it hard to use the rhythms on the keyboard - at least from any notation form... the organ itself probably only understands start, stop and fill for rhythms, and not individual drum notes. I couldn't find anything about this organ on the internet that was of any use, so I don't know the specifics, but before you start writing rhythm parts, you should look into what the organ understands.

If you want to spend more money, then there are other options for you but if its just for a backing track for your own amusement, you may not wish to spend a lot of money on it.

This is somewhere that a manual will be extremely helpful to you... hope you have one!

Hi Geoff

I'm in a similar position to yourself - I'm a musician new to MIDI and attempting to put together backing tracks on CD for a duo I've recently formed.

What's the name of your computer programme? I use Cubase VST 5.1/32 which is a bit old but does the trick. It also has a musical score facility.

Getting my head around the MIDI aspects now and have some experience of recording/editing/mixing/mastering my own compositions onto CD so may be able to help - let me know how you get on.

Mike

Band in a Box is a program that generates midi backgrounds to play along with.

Amazing program.

Still need a midi interface to get midi to your device like Richiebee was saying.

A used one on ebay might be an idea.
