Default annoying problem for a noob.

Howdy, forums. I'm new to setting up midi controllers, I suppose.
I own a pc88 mx and I'm connecting it to my computer via midi-usb m-audio connector. It works fine as a controller, but every soft synth I use it with is in the same quantized beat and it's driving me nuts. I've read a ton and it seems that the keyboard has no quantizing feature, so I'm assuming that my PC is doing something in the midst that is causing this.
Oh, shoot- forgot to say that even when the controller is unplugged and i'm playing the software keyboard programmed into the soft synth, it still plays the quantized beat.
Thanks ahead of time...
-sam

EDIT:
FINALLY found the problem, latency was too slow. fixed it up and I'm good now!
REEDIT:
Never mind. Just slowed down latency, there is still a strange midi groove going on. Yikes.

I can't see how latency would have anything to do with quantization...

You have a midi track with the input from your keyboard and the output going back to your keyboard? You have local control off?

Try this, make a midi track and set its input to your synth then it's output set to not connected. Record on your keyboard (local on) then set the output to your synth and see if it plays back. If so your getting midi looping and need to play with local off.

It's also nice to have something small and standalone on the computer to test these things. I've collect a bunch, but one of the newer ones is minihost by tobybear. it hosts your vst in standalone mode.

alright alright. I posted a video of me using the cakewalk studio instruments standalone/vsti program.
clearly i am not clicking the keys in any beat, it is predetermined and it's the exact same thing with my midi controller.
