Default recoding drums first then over dubbing cymbals?

Hey guys just want to know if anyone has ever recorded drums first and then of dubbed the cymbals??

I know queens of the stone age do it, but i just want to know if anyone els has. And if so, how did you do it? was it easy? did you have any methods??

It would be great to get any kind of feed back or info.
Cheers guys.

I've never done it. I've heard about quite a few bands over the years doing it.

It definitely would not work for some music. It definitely would not work with certain drummers.

With that said, it's a neat trick. If it adds to the music, it's worth doing. If it takes away from the music...it's worth avoiding. Does that make sense?

Tricks like this can be awesome or destructive.

With all that said, it would be nice to have room mics without cymbals in them!

Yeah, I'd like to hear it. Recording cymbals seperate from the drums opens up quite a bit of engineering possibilities if you know what you want.
