I went out and bought the Audix D6 last week and all I have to say is God Damn, this thing is sweet. I can't wait to record with this thing
Hang on a minute...... You are saying the Audix D6 is worthy of a "God Damn" but you haven't recorded with it yet???? So what's so awesome about it? The box? The shape of the mic?

lol sorry man, I have a PA system at my house, I mic'd up my drums and was blown away by the sound that came out of the kick mic.

Oh good! I was afraid that you were just looking at the mic. Let us know when you get to record it.

I am using the Audix D6 kick mike and I am getting a great sound. If I figure out how to post an audio file I'll record it so you can hear it. I spent 4 hours one day trying to find the best sound for rock. I'll share what I discovered, it may help someone out someday.

This is in the studio by the way, I would probably change it up for live on-stage micing. I have the front drum head completely off. I have a folded up towel sitting in the bottom of the drum slightly touching the batter drum head. I turn the mic sidways so it is facing the barrel of the drum, not facing the batter head.

This gives me medium attack with a nice thud. If I want more attack, I rotate the mic facing more towards the batter head.

Interesting. Your kick drum must have a lot of high end attack! Even with "thuddy" kick drums I still find myself boostin the upper mids.

Yea the audix hardly needs to be tweaked, I found if you want more click you just boost the highs and boom you got yourself some click. When I equalized everything on the mixer back to zero it still had click, with a nice thud to it. Still waiting on my friend to mix down those tracks,we just used a condenser and the audix to get a feel for how it sounded.

And to answer the question as to have I taken the Resonent Head off of the kick drum, yes I have, and I have seen it done at a live venue because the kid didn't have it ported, as Brandon said sometimes its good and sometimes it's bad, from my experience its too dull for my liking

..THAT should be somethin! One of my all time favorites!
..and due to your review, I have just ordered a D6. my recording set is a old Pearl International- I'll try the sound from the front OUTSIDE the front head first...my "live" set has an Evans resonator w/port...it sounds dandy w/a Shure 78 thru our Bassist big ass amp- I know that resonator heads need to be changed, but this one is original & ...it goes to eleven..maybe I'll hang it on a wall
