Also, if you get real drums and mics, be sure to get a big enough room to record them in. It's a sonically huge instrument and recording them absolutely dry in a tiny room, adding ambience latter provides utility that is a poor return on your investment.

well I'm glad I'm broke or I would've wasted A LOT of money on those electric drums. My friend decided to open up a drum studio in his dad's warehouse. It has plenty of room, we can make it sound great, and nobody cares about the noise, so I'm definitely going accoustic

I've got a 5-piece set of Rogers (Vintage from some time in the 60's) with Wuhan cymbals. Not expensive overall, and if you know how to tune your drums (if you don't, learn how), they sound great. I've got Terry Bozzio Attack Drumheads and a Peace double kick.

All in all, I think I've got about a grand invested, fairly cheap as far as drums go...

[QUOTE=rugrat;73836]Hello,

I'm drummer hence forth giving drum advice.

Cymbals...
I read a review just yesterday that where someone said they're new mcs crash sounds just as good as their $400 zildjian crash.
They maybe be the second to lowest in the brand, but they sound like sabian and zildjians nice stuff.

but in my opinion sabian and zildjian are not very good for their price.

are you crazy? have you ever played k-customs? from personal experience with mcs and a and k customs / many other zildjians/sabians ..i can say for sure they these sound nothing alike and there is a HUGE difference in sound quality. maybe if you are talking about the byzance series but mcs??... please. with cymbals you get what you pay for. the only budget series cymbals that sound a lot better than their price is the xs20's by sabian which is made from the same alloy as their higher end stuff...the difference is its machine lathed instead of hand hammered

Cymbals are like acoustic guitars that every one sounds different. So it could have been a bad zildjian and a good mcs. I know my mcs crash sounds amazing, but I have heard ones that didn't sound so great. Yes, I have played zildjian K customs. There are very few zildjian and sabain cymbals that impress me. IMy favorite brands are paiste and meinl, but from expierence paiste cost to much and crack the fastest.

... yes they all do sound different but have you ever heard a squier that sounds better than a les paul? theres always variation in cymbals(moreso in hand hammered ones) but the cheap bronze used in cheaper cymbals has a distinct ping sound ( think b8's) that you can really hear when u do a side by side comparison. cymbals are quite subjective but ive never heard cheap cymbals used on a good album and in my experience a nicer cymbal makes a huge difference in my recordings. how long have you been playing by the way?

I have been playing a few years, but I practice about an hour every day. You can play for ten years and hardly practice or you can practice a lot. I also take lessons from one of the better drummers in my area. If I go into a drumshop or guitar center they know who he is. I think lessons are important. All the best drummers I know took lessons through college. So I have played lots of cymbals either at stores, churchs drumsets, or my teachers. I like the sound of paiste, but they crack way to much. I think meinl just has really good value on their cymbals. I like that they step out of the box. O well cymbal sound is all opinion anyway. I know a guy who thinks the best one's are the trashiest one's

messed up guy...

Ya true there are better alloys for nicer cymbals. Hand hammered does a lot too. There was one zildjian k I liked. It was cracked though... My teacher was repairing it for the church he plays at. I get really annoyed when a guy says "these are the nicest cymbals you can get."

(sorry going on another tangent)

This guy I know got the most expensive sabains he could get. He has 1 ride, a hihat, 1 splash, a china, and a crash or two. $10,000

I don't even like their sound and they are going to crack like any normal cymbal.

What kind of mics you got?
