First thing I ask, How much are you willing to spend? SM57's are 100$ a pop. My friend just bought an Audix I5 microphone that I use on my snare and it sounds just as good as the SM57 and is designed to take more damage without showing wear and tear. I have the Audix D6 for the kick drum and I absolutely love the thing. Heres a package Audix has at musiciansfriend- Buy Audix AD-4 Pro Drum Mic Pack online at Musician's Friend

Which is a really good deal. The I5 is 100$ and the D6 is $200 by themselves.

Here is a couple Shure offers

I don't know much about Shure mics because I use Audix but they have been around forever and produce quality stuff. It's all my dad will buy.

Hope this helps a little.

I'll believe that when I see it. I've seen an SM 57 get ran over by a car and it still works.
