I stand with Brandon on this one. I have no particular attachment with rock stars, of course I have only met 3 Doors Down in my time....... I just think people hate rock stars like Ulrich that stand up for what they believe in. I think everyone should just respect each other's opinions and achievements. I may not like music or styles of certian successful musicians, but that does not make me hate those people, I still respect them for what they have done, but just like they are entitled to their opinions and choices I am mine as well.

I'll second (third?) the Aquarian Super Kick II recommendation. Best bass drum sound ever. For toms I mostly stick with Remo coated Ambassadors, snare typically gets an Emperor. I'm not usually willing to drop the $$$ to stray outside my comfort zone, but I wish I would experiment more. |

Kinda getting off topic here Brandon, but one of the reasons so many people hate Lars these days is the display of total douchebaggery he exibited during the whole Napster thing a few years back. He came off as the stereotypical poor little rich boy everybody wants to punch in the throat. As far as his musicianship goes he's been pretty influential over the years with that silly slappy clicky-ass double bass drum sound he's perfected. Lump

Well.......if people were downloading our new songs before we even finished recording them...I'd be a douchebag too.

I'm a total capitalist and think people should earn their pay and get payed what they earn. However, the deal is off when you have $20,000,000 paintings in your house. I watched a Steve Albini lecture recently. He mentioned that it was totally hipocritical for Metallica to smash Napster when less than 20 years beforehand they had used the whole "taping" phenomenon to spread their music. If people hadn't made copies and past them on to friends, no one would have ever heard of Metallica because they certainly weren't getting airplay back then. Brandon |

I agree with Metallica's arguements against file swapping. I just didn't like the way that they conducted themselves during the hearings. I remember Frank Zappa's articulate testimony on Capital Hill during the PMRC hearings back in the late 80's. He made all those anal retentive polititians look like a bunch of asstards and as a result contributed to his cause in a very positive way. He changed a lot of minds. But it's not really fair to compare Zappa to Metallica is it? Lump

Napster was clearly a service that should have been made illegal. It used a centralized server. This means that when it came time to actually downloading the file, the Napster server was finding the guy that would give it to you. This service was wrong because it was completely clear that the software's illegal uses greatly outweighed it's legal uses. Technology has changed some now and there are no centralized servers. In fact, many of the P2P companies that folded still have working software out there and it will probably to continue to work for a long, long time. It's back to the same old issue about the music business losing money. I think it has nothing to do with P2P at all. I think it's because they are not making much of a product. Brandon |

Drury, you can say you've met someone who has met and knows Lars. He's my cousin, and i've been out with them on the midwest legs of the last 2 Sanitarium tours. |
