This thread has prompted a bit of inspirato for me. With it in mind, I came across a nifty little section at the Toontrack website that's called eDrums-For-Free. It literally breaks down detail by detail how one can go about building their own eKit, but by still allowing those that partake to use their own creative juices to bust out some cool stuff. I've already begun purchasing some materials to get started. It's going to take me a lot of time, but I'm excited to have somethin' like this to work on that'll be quite useful to me.

Used to make drums but gave it up. Not enough money in it, hardware is too expensive unless you buy enough for 1000 drums

i build em for myself not for profit...but considering how much a 10 ply maple 26'' kick would cost to buy i saved hundreds of dollars

| Yeah, I did that too. I had no problem building for myself and maybe a close friend or two, but when I started getting lots of requests for them, I just couldn't get enough profit for the time and energy it took. If you call that mercenary, I would not disagree There are lots of other ways I can make better income.BTW, I don't think I've ever seen or heard ash veneer shells. Can you describe the difference between them and maple or birch?

| well my toms and snare are ash .. not veneers.. 8 ply ash.. good eye by the way! but ash has very similar tone to maple but is a lot louder.. the projection is really there.. but id say its tone has more mids n lows than maple.. but not quite like mahogany

yes your right..but i've seen lots of drums with veneers such as walnut used as a wrap and thought thats what you meant.. cause ash isnt used very often.
