Re: WANTED: Monitor headphones
First let me say that I don't recommend mixing with headphones. Use them as a reference, sure. But mixing in headphones is bad for a couple reasons. 1. There is no inter-aural crosstalk. Part of the reason we hear things the way we do is due to timing differences from a sound reaching one ear and then the other, and you don't get that with headphones because the sounds are projected directly into each ear. 2. Mixing in headphones causes ear fatigue much faster than mixing on monitors because the sound is right in your ear, and therefore louder, for longer periods of time.
Now as far as which headphones to use, I recommend the Sennheiser HD650s. They're open ear so ear fatigue is less of a problem. And their frequency response is amazing. I also recommend Ultrasone 2500s. These are also open ear, and although very different from the Sennheisers, sound very, very good in their own right.
