I have TOTALLY given up on my yamaha aw 1600 that i bought for 1000 and could never really figure out.. is there an expert out there? or should I just unload it to someone smarter than me?

No. A friend of mine has one, and it's a nice machine. You should read the manual, and go to a few forums with Yamaha help threads and get yoursef hip to it. Got your basics down? Can you find the channel-strip in there?

Did you only want something for simple recordings? Not into an 'all-in-one' production thing?

If you only want something for songwriting and basic composition, and you play only with REAL instruments and have a mic or two to record yourself with, get a Zoom H2 or a Tascam DR-1. You can record to those devices, and do editing and stuff in a computer with software (lots of free editing software for a PC out there). USB your tracks from the device to the PC.

In other words, I'm no expert. But there's a manual- and no you're not stupid. You just got to get down with it, kid.

If you're still intent on getting rid of it, I'll trade you for a nice bass guitar...

I use to have an aw 16g and that is what really opened up recording for me. I loved that damn thing. The only reason I got rid of it was because the adapter went out and it was like a hundred bucks for another, plus is was ready for cubase. It is very hard to learn how to efficiently run those yamaha models but when you do you will love it. The manual is the best way. It is a fucking huge manual but it pays off. Also i would check this forum out.
