Default Multitrack Workstations

I'm considering a Multitrack Workstation for recording for the main purpose of portability. I'm looking at the Kork D3200 and the Tascam 2488mkII. Does anyone have any knowledge on these or am I wasting my money going this route.

Thanks,

BC

Most of us here are computer recording guys. I used a buddy's Roland once and completely hated it.

It's my opinion that unless a person using these stand alone recorders either has minimal needs or is not as serious about making great records. I have heard a few really good recordings with standalone boxes, but it is the minority in my opinion.

Thanks for your response,

After going to Guitar Center and looking at these more closely, I've come to the decission that using Cubase Studio 4 computer software will be the best way to go and besides trying read the screen on these workstations will drive me nuts.

Tell me about it. I've been running live sound quite a bit recently for a band using a Yamaha 01v96. The little screen it a total pain!!! I'm so spoiled by my recording rig.
