Clearing out some of the stuff we don't need. I got an old Alesis ADAT Multitrack recorder version 4.03 for sale. You can find facts on it at http://www.gbaudio.co.uk/data/adat.htm. The only problem with it is that the tape deck eats tape, so I'm gonna go ahead and sell it for dirt cheap.
How does $150 sound? Thanks, Ben.

Does this thing have a digital out?
I've heard of people using the converters. Brandon

Hold on,? If your talking about Lightpipe, then yes it does. The lightpipe out can be connected to most soundcards to run the 8 adat tracks into the soundcard giving you an other 8 tracks, if the soundcard supports that. I know the MOTU cards support that but not sure about anything else. That would be essentially using the converters if thats what you meant. In fact I used it to do this, then saw more $$ options that optimized workflow for us (got this idea from your article). I also generally don't like to use a mixing board as the phantom on a board (even some of the nicer prosumer dare I call it that brands such as Mackie) turns on phantom for every channel making it quite noisy, where stand alone pre-amps are cheaper and have less of a noise factor. I then saw that some of the more $$ 8 channel pres had lightpipe out and decided to go for one of those. Possibly a bad decision but i'll give it a whirl. So therefor I am slimming down here and spending an extra $500-$600 depending on what I can sell, to get a more efficient option, though this works completely fine.

Actually, if you are using it for this reason (just for the converters) then the broken dat deck doesn't matter because you are not recording anything to tape (unless you are looking for partial session backups in ADAT digital tape format). So in reality, you can gain the 8 simultaneous tracks with this partially broken no problem.

I had toyed with the notion of dumping my Delta 1010s and getting one 8 channel firewire box with ADAT Lightpipe in. I'm not sure I'm ready for that jump right now, though. I was just curious if your had the outputs.
Thanks, Brandon

I thought the Delta card did have ADAT lightpipe in. You must have two of them to be running 16 channels right?
If you ever decide to go that other route, I'll be trying to sell this one for a while. Ben
