Default Your first record?

What was the first record (45, cd, tape, 8-track, et al) you ever bought with your own money? Those old "turn the page at the beep" record/books don't count.

Mine was an original, unmolested 45 of the Beach Boys' "Heroes and Villians", complete with the funky green sleeve and the super-weird "You're Welcome" on the B-side, at a yardsale for a nickle. I think the owner must've played it once, freaked out, and never put it back on because even though it was 16 years old when I bought it, it still looked and sounded new.

I thought it would be funny to see what kinda cheese everyone invested in back in the day. Luckily mine was pretty cool.

My first tape was Bon Jovi's "New Jersey".

I'll have to say that the record still holds up. Obviously anything from '88 is going to look different and use a different production style, but the songs are just good old rock / pop songs. When I hear it today I think more of Bryan Adams than I do Poison or Warrant.

I still pop the cd in every once in a while.

Good thread, Lump.

My first CD was Soundgarden's "Superunknown".

I bought it with my birthday money when I was nine. That's a very strange and powerful thing to have in your hands when you are nine years old. I remember listening to that album the first several times and being mystified, dumbfounded, and a little bit scared (similar to how I felt when I heard "Dark Side of the Moon" by Pink Floyd).

I still can't listen to that Soundgarden CD without feeling something powerful. That is something missing from most of today's music.

In seventh grade I heard Bob Dylan over the radio singing Blowin' in the Wind, and decided I liked it. A few days later, we were in a giant music store in Boston and I noticed they had quite a lot of Bobby D. So, I bought "The Essential Bob Dylan." Still one of my favorite CDs to listen to. The first non-compilation/greatest hits album I bought was Neil Young's Greendale after seeing him in concert performing it. Another awesome CD.

When I was in 3rd grade I bought the Space Jam soundtrack. Not one of my proudest moments.

You young pups, not that I am old, but back in high school my first tape probably was def leppards hysteria or maybe david lee roths skyscraper. I don't listen to that kind of music any more though.

I know I bought a few CD singles before I bought my first full album, but I'm pretty sure my first album was: Time Flies: The Best of Huey Lewis....it blew me away!!!! Huey is a genius!!!!
