I play Native American Flutes, and I got this crazy thought ... what sort of device would I need to change the "voice" of the sound? Eg., make it sound more like a sax, or trumpet, or even something otherworldly (as if these things don't sound pretty 'out there' already!) I'm not looking to pitch-shift / correct, just change how it sounds. I want to do this in real-time, not a plugin for offline editing. -David |

fuzz ... WTF? This isn't a guitar, and I'm not looking to simply overmodulate the signal. I have no problem using MY imagination. The trouble is, YOU can't hear it. ![]() There ARE signal processing boxes around that DO this kind of thing. I suppose if I asked you how I go about sampling the sound reflectivity in a space so I can reproduce that as a reverb effect, you guys would say the same thing. The fact is, it's called a "convolution reverb" function. Google it. There are several plugins to accomplish it for different software products. Waves has a few, among others. The trouble is, if you don't know what it's called, "convolution reverb", it would be doggone hard to find it. It's not like you'd easily guess it, right? -David |

Don't knock it till you try it! I dunno what aspect of a sax's you wanted.... but a little fuzz might go a long way! Ring modulate. that's an awesome way to get a messed up "otherworldly" sound! Or, I guess there must be some playing techniques that get a more out there effect... |

Look ... I'm trying to find out what equipment is used to change the sound of voices in real-time. This forum is full of folks with home studios and every imaginable kind of equipment and software. I figured somebody might know the answer. I might not know what it IS, but I DO KNOW it's NOT "distort the crap out of it". YOU might love the sound of your voice run through a fuzz box, but that's NOT what I'm looking for. Also, I'm not trying to make my flute sound like a sax. I used that as an example -- I mean ... "changing the voice". Like, making a woman sound like a man. Not just pitch-shifting, but changing the timbre of the signal as well. You don't do that with a fuzz box! -David Last edited by desertrat; 08-26-2009 at 03:01 AM. |

There must be a Midi system like they have for guitar that recognizes the note and transforms it into a midi note number. From there you basically have a keyboard. You could turn your flute into a sax.

I kind of doubt you're going to receive much in the way of solid help now, in light of the way you responded. Quote:
There are ways to do what you wanting to do, but I think YOU need to cool your jets a bit and rethink your approach to those who are wanting to be helpful. You are right in that there are quite a few people here who are knowledgeable. I have found most folks like to share their knowledge with those who have a good attitude, though.
