Default What Is This?

I got given this (Soundlab DEQ 31X1) with my new amp. Does anyone know what it is?

I googled it but it only displayed results in other languages?

I think it may be an equalizer but i really am not sure.

Thanks in advance

What is it? Nothing you'd want to use in a recording studio and something I would never personally use on a PA. Don't get me started on the evils of 31 band EQs. So for me it would be spare parts and in to the dumpster. Actually, that's not quite right. I'd photo it and throw it up on eBay bet some sucker would give $30-40 for one.

I'm glad I'm not the only one that feels that way. I'll take a 4-band parametric any day of the week.

A couple points. Most inexpensive ones are a ground loop disaster waiting to strike. Every band that is engaged creates phase distortion in the "shoulder regions" with the neighboring bands. The filters themselves tend to have very cheap componentry. So many essentially identical circuits really add up any nonsense noise that you'd find in one circuit. Usually the balancing/unbalancing schemes are ineffeicient and don't help the overall picture as far as faithfully passing audio. They have a fixed, narrow Q. To express a wider Q (more "musical" in sound and application) more bands have to be engaged, thereby expressing more of the inherent shortcomings.

Yeah.... all that and we've essentially used 31 "wrong" answers when 2-3 "right" answers would have gotten the job done.
