Default Voice worth investing in?

OK so I've produced for a couple years and wrote songs for several, but I've never done much with my voice so I did a cover and I'm not going to say how I think it sounds for I have no idea(they say its hard to judge yourself)
so anyway I was wondering if you think my voice is worth investing in lessons for.... I did "who says you can;t go home" by Bon Jovi/sugarland and give them full crdit for the song... Thanks even if you think I suck
(propably going to be the answer) let me know

My advice is to tackle this first: "they say its hard to judge yourself"

You gotta be able to judge yourself or you won't know if you're ON or NOT.

In this sample, you weren't ON. Can voice lessons help? Dunno. You need to be the judge of that.

This feels like "American Idol," so I will borrow the words of Randy Jackson; "sing'en just ain't your thing, dog."

You must know, being a producer, the need to be brutally honest with people when it come to these kinds of questions. Along the lines of what TonyB wrote, you should be able to ask yourself a question like, "if someone sang like this for me, would I want to produce them? Would I want them singing a song I wrote?" You used in your title "worth investing in." That makes me think you would be looking for a return on your investment - the only monetary return being someone paying to hear you sing - recorded or live. Judging from the recording you posted, could you imagine anyone paying to hear you sing?

Now, monetary returns are not the only returns. If you really enjoy singing and would get personal fulfillment from investing in your vocal, by all means, go for it! But, it would be foolish to believe you have a career ahead of you as a vocalist.

It sounds like an average person who isn't used to singing singing. I mean the sound of your voice isn't bad but its missing power/control and emotion.

So imo with practice (mainly this) and maybe voice lessons you could get a good sounding voice, probably not great. Everyone can learn how to get a good singing voice - powerful and on pitch. You wouldn't hold up as a solo singing star but as part of a band, yeah sure you have potential to do that.

I think its worth investing in lessons if you want to become a better singer. You'll develop an ear so you'll know about being on pitch, among other things. If your goal is just to improve, by all means get lessons.

You don't have to be a singer. It didn't stop Bob Dylan or Burt Bacharach - and countless bands who get on late night TV. They even teach tone deaf actors to sing. A instructor can help you find your vocal niche.

im working on getting some lessons and im talking with a guy a produced back when I just started about playing guitar and doing some backing vocals in his band because his guitarist leaving because hes got a kid coming and can't tour anymore.... Um any body got some tips.... my main goal is I wan't entertain people(make them happy...) I knew it wasn't on pitch because i think i was trying to sing in a key that I can't sing in... plus i didn't listen to the original before I recorded it and I recorded it twice and I think the first one had a better overall to it but anyway... any tips or advice is helpfulI also had a sour throat when I did this so that is probably a little bit of it and no im not trying to blame it on something else
