Default Truly Revolutionary Bands

This is a spinoff of another thread.

Can you name bands that were truly revolutionary and innovative. I'm talking about bands that blew people's minds and made them shrivel up their eyebrows when they heard it.

If you didn't say "What the w a r m is this?" then it doesn't count. The band must be a new sound that the world hasn't heard before. Nirvana doesn't count. They were the band that pushed the music industry from one trend to another, but they weren't doing anything that hadn't been done before.

We are talking about bands who invented wheels when they came out (or even afterwards).

Here goes:

The Cure
Korn
Metallica (maybe...)
Marilyn Manson (there was a day when Beautify People was mind blowing off the wall....not so much anymore)
Nine Inch Nails (although they really stole much of their foundation from Skinny Puppy and made it better)...so maybe they don't count.

I'm too tired to think of any more.

White Stripes (primarily Jack White, but not quite what he's doing in Raconteurs)

'Pink Floyd', of course.
Do bands who only stayed together long enough to tour one album count?
If so then 'Little Village'.
Wow two threads in almost as many days, where I get to mention them.

A little known band from Wales named 'Budgie' were doing what 'Rush' did way before 'Rush' were doing it.
So 'Budgie' get my vote for that band that made people go, (What the w a r m was that??) There is still some footage of the original 'Budgie' to be found on youtube and some one was uploading album tracks with there own collages if any one is interested.
I believe 'Metallica' covered there song 'Breadfan'
Just to save any one trawling through lots of stuff about real budgies doing all sorts of wierd stuff on youtube, here's a starting point.
YouTube - Budgie who do you want for your love
YouTube - BUDGIE - BREADFAN

Led Zeppelin (First album)
Black Sabbath (First album)
Pink Floyd (Umma Gumma)
The Who (Live at Leeds or Who's Next)
Yes (The Yes Album)
Cream (Wheels of Fire or Disraeli Gears)

...these are a few of the bands that set the stage for everything that came afterwards. Sounds old now but when these came out, they were like nothing the world had ever heard before. Many of the other bands mentioned certainly owe a debt to these bands.

Steely Dan - the mix of jazz and rock had never been done and hasn't been equalled.

Cheers,

Tony
