Smile Time & motion study

Hi,
Three quick questions - to see if I'm 'normal'
1. How many hours per day do you guys sit in front of a computer?
2. How much of that time (truthfully now) is spent creatively, as opposed to mucking around with your system/software program etc?
3. How many projects did you FINISH during the last year?

In my case:
1. 6 hours
2. 3 hours
3. none

1) I'd say somewhere between 10-16 hours per day (some doing RecordingReview work, other time doing recording work)
2) I'd say 95% of that is creative. I don't have to fight my system too often.
3) Recording projects? About 20. Web projects. Probably 15 in addition to all the progress this stupid site has made.

1. 8-16 hours

2. Very little mucking around with the system. Not all the rest is creative though... some is utilitarian. At work I have several systems so can work on two or three at a time if its not creative stuff. Things like burning discs, bouncing audio and video, burning CD's and DVD's... at home I spend as much time on Facebook as I do composing or recording. Also listen to lots of music...

3. 6 commercial CD's (2 as sound engineer, 1 as editor, 2 as performer, 1 as midi orchestration/rendering), 1 talking book (recording engineer for orchestra and voiceovers, editor and mix engineer), 7 composition assignments (composition and virtual orchestration, plus a tiny bit of recording), 1 TV theme (composition, performance, mixing), countless "demo" projects... some audio only, some with video, mostly classical. One additional commercial CD as performer still in progress (waiting to be able to get teh whole horn section together to finish off tracks)... one very large editing job still in progress, but getting close to finished. Tomorrow night I teach kids how to record a classical concert (should take all of about 10 minutes!)... Sunday I start rehearsing for a large show for performances early December... hopefully when that's done, it'll be time to relax for Christmas.

If its any consolation, I don't get paid much for what I do. I do love it though. And I love the people I work with too.

I can't think of better reasons to do it.

Same here. I'm hoping that putting the time in will eventually get me where I want to go musically as well as financially. I sometimes get pretty damn stressed out about money and I live pretty cheaply so I can maintain this lifestyle, but I guarantee you that there are guys making large amounts of cash who would definitely trade me places.
