I don't think the study is trying to "prove" anything. That's not really what studies do. If they were trying to prove something, then they would be biased and therefore have a greater chance of being flawed. I think the study is suggesting that there are actually some smart kids who listen to metal and those smart kids tend to have low self esteem. I guess it is trying to break the stigma of the Skid Row "18 and a Life" video. Quote:

The survey result is unsurprising. Although the idea that "metal is linked with delinquency" has not been disproved. "Delinquency" (a long term for 'thinking for oneself, rebelling against authority and being mentally independent') is almost inseperable from true intellect. As Ayn Rand said, "a thinking child cannot conform; thought does not bow to authority."

Brandon, Im an Objectivist myself (Ayn Randian) so I wish you the best on going through that Ayn Rand phase. Its a wonderful experience, believe me. |

Ayn Rand was a good fiction author, if a bit long winded. A lot of what she warned about in Atlas Shrugged has come to pass unfortunately. I find her philosophy writings to be kinda ho-hum. But that's what I get for reading philosophy. She called out the Civil Rights Act of 1964, that's for sure. For all the godlessness that objectivism preaches, I find it ironic that Rand has been elevated to god status among the practitioners of the objectivist religion. I prefer a quiet dinner followed by sober converstion with objectivists, and then getting drunk and stoned with the Friedrich Nietzsche freaks; they are simply more fun to be around. Lump

I stole this from Wikipedia. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Objectivism_(Ayn_Rand) I know not everyone thinks this way, but I don't know of anyone who does things for no reason and absolutely no benefit to themselves. So, I don't think this whole "objectivist" title is really all that unique. The Niche people (I forget how to spell his name) who scream "GOD IS DEAD!". That just hits you upside the head with a lot bigger stick than "we all do what we want". Don't get me wrong. This objectivism thing sounds fun, but you are less likely to get stoned (in the Biblical sense). Brandon |
