Ive never had a sm 57 only the sm 58... I kinda miss it too...
so whats the issue about the sm 57 rattling?? I dont know, if I would buy a mic that rattles anyways... but If it rattles when you move it ... maybe it shouldnt be moved ... <Shruggs>

I never shake my mics. Why would anyone want to shake something that they depend on to pick up sound sources? Shaking, dropping, bumping, using as a hammer, etc., are all bad for electronics in my opinion.
If the cap shakes when you are micing something, either turn the volume down on your source or move the mic farther away. I believe that may solve the problem. Every 57 I've ever seen has the revolving cap like that. Have never heard anyone say that it affects the sound in any manner. /shrug
