I don't think it's "broken". If it were broken, it wouldn't pick up sound or the sound would be drastically different from another 57. Brandon |

If you are insinuating that someone should go and change the mic because the top piece thing is free to move around, I think you are crazy. Then again, I have 6 of them. I'd love for their price to double. Brandon |

I have a 2 old ones (like early 80s) and 4 newer ones. I can't tell a difference. I'm just trying to understand how the fact that the plastic cap is allowed to move is a bad thing. It doesn't seam to have anything to do with making a record great or not. If we are testing the mic for rigidness or some sort of strength test or whatever, it may make sense, but I'm not sure that I get it. Am I missing something? Brandon |

When the cap becomes loose it will rattle. I tried using a piece of tape abound it but it changed the fequency responce. Killed all the low end and very mid rangy and harse. I have on in my gear that the cap fell off. I have electrical tape on it and it is useless on guitar. Sounds like i am miking a non working side of a guitar cab. All feedback. I was using it on a snare for a while but it sounded bad there also. At the club I work at the caps were loose, tried the tape, ended up using 2 rubber o-rings to take up the slack. They sound pefect and actually seem more stable now. I couldn't find an exact size to fill the gap so ended up using 2 o-rings.
