Always keep in your mind... the aim is not to record as much material as humanly possible in the shortest possible time, in the hope that SOMETHING will be good. Talking, reading, listening... they're all really valuable skills in developing as a musician, sound engineer and producer. Quality over quantity. When inspiration strikes, believe me, you will leave the forum alone while you craft your masterpiece. And the more you know, from your own experiences and from others, the better armed you are to achieve your goal.

Enjoy!

There is something to the quality vs quantity debate, but there is something to putting in your time. As long as you are learning concepts and techniques, there is nothing wrong with doing the research. It is encouraged. However, there is a point where you do have to get your hands dirty.

I do think that most of the engineering skills I've learned over the years have come from doing it day in and day out. Just like guitar playing, the guy that practices 30 minute per day is usually going to excell faster than the guy who practices 4 hours in one day and then doesn't touch the thing for another week.
