Default RIAA Admits Real Problem....sort off

For the first time ever, the RIAA doesn't blame illegal music downloading for dimishing sales.

Evidence That Piracy Is Not Responsible For RIAA Sales Drops

Maybe we've reached a limit on some things such as vulgarness. I know years ago Heavy Metal bands killing shit and Gangstas of the streets killing each other and all yelling Fuck this and Fuck you appealed very well. It kinda had the "whoa" affect. Now when I see that I'm just kinda like yeaaaaa....... So we try something new, so far we've come down to songs about shaking, dancing, and being whores, and kids who get their hearts broken by girls. Not quite as edgy or entertaining. Not saying anything legit, I might be wrong but maybe we either need to find something edgier or just something completely new like recording the sounds of giraffes mating and sell that. I don't know.
Im not exactly sure what we could find more vulgar but then again I doubt back in the 20's they imagined bands like slayer... Maybe we just need to wait.

Another maybe, but what if it's like a generation thing. Maybe the new generations trend is to not be stuck to a trend. Just a thought. Actually the more I think about it, this next generation doesn't really seem to be very cooped with itself. Whatever that may mean.

Just throwing some ideas out there.

Well there is no doubt that it takes more to shock people now. This probably has something to do with the fact that a person can find a video of a person getting sucked into a jet engine by typing 3 words into Google.

We've discussed before that the days of the mega star are over and there are now alternative forms of entertainment. I've sent out links to my buddy's creation on Youtube more than I've bragged about X new band.

I see what you are getting at. Maybe people of the current generation have no true indentity that bonds them.

All of this could explain why record sales are down.

and how many indie records are selling under the radar of the RIAA from small acts like myself.... I mean I sell my record, I pocket the money.

The RIAA has no clue that I am selling a record and they are not out there fighting for me or helping me make anything happen.... I think the RIAA has outlived its use.

Have a nice day

The grass roots / selling music out of the trunk of the car thing has been there as long as musicians have been able to sell music.

While I there are probably those who are successful doing thing, I doubt if the trunk sales adds up to the point that it effects the RIAA's numbers.

I know it has been going on for a long time as well... but is is growing a lot more since more bands have been able to buy some interface to a computer and hash out some "songs" and make an album.

More Indie bands are making records, while many are pretty crappy.... almost every band here in town that I have gigged with have a CD.
