maybe at least proactively check in with the credit card company - or your bank - to see if there are any problems with the card number. that way if it's legit, you wouldn't have offended the client?

no no no no !!!!!!!!!!!!!!
that is how you lose

they count on the delay
between cashing your good check
and you finding out that theirs was bogus
or in this case the cc was stolen


just ignore him for 60 days
verify with your bank that the cc
was not stolen
is valid
and
will not be charged back ever in the future
for any reason
before you do anything to send money back

if this is a valid cc
cant you just reverse the charges safely
and they put it back on as a credit for the real owner
check with your bank first
that cuold be safe

but never send him money by check or wire or otehrwise
that is how they rip people off

of course *he* knows about it

you need to find out if that is really his cc
or a stolen number that he used

i would keep it as a credit for when he does really show up

still say check with the bank not him
if you can issue a credit the right guy gets the money for sure
send him the money by another channel and you may be the loser
