Lightbulb Idea for custom Bass Cab design, using PA??

Okay... so my band recently confronted me, cornered me, and asked me why I didn't bring my bass cab into my 4' by 6' college apartment to play shows with. I answered with "I have this monster PA that we play out of and its not tiny". So they said "Get the bass cab or we will kill you".

SO i have come up with the idea of making an enclosure for the PA to sit in, with the outward appearance of a bass cabinet!

The PA is 2 JBL Eon P15's. 2 Powered Speakers with 15" woofers and 1" horn tweeters. I figure if I make one enclosure for both to sit in, it would look pretty legit. I have a Hartke bass head to plug into, and then from there go out to the 2 PA speakers. I'm thinking of putting lights on the inside to dimly lit the woofers to make it a little more B.A.

Any thoughts on this? Yay or nay?

First, JBL Eon P15s are PA speakers. they are already powered. If you run an amp to a powered speaker something gonna give. You could use just the speaker but, they are not Musiacal instrument speakers, so they don't sound as good. You might be just as well off to use some radioshack 15s. I guess you could ry this but are you sure you want to rish blowing your JBL Eon P15s? Yes it will work but to what expense?

I run my bass through a bass amp modeler into a mixer into 2 powered jbl eon g2 15s. My guitarist runs through a guitar amp modeler into same mixer. We love this setup for our live shows. Sure it doesn't sound the best, but it still sounds good, and it's way easy to set up, it's light, and I can get the whole band's gear (drums included) into my prius. If the venue's PA is badass enough, we don't even bring the eons, and we just run through their monitors. We jump around a lot, and this gives us even more room to go crazy on stage. Our modelers have xlr outs so they're soundguy friendly. It's also nice getting the guitar through my side of the stage and vice versa, and my guitarist also gets nifty stereo effects going.

I don't know why you'd want to hide your rig in something even more bulky. If at all possible, I'd try to impress upon your band the virtues of a compact rig.

My usual setup is using the head into a mixer into the speakers. It sounds decent enough, so I'm not gunna buy an Ampeg 8x10" and throw myself into debt.

and... it would actually blow the speakers? I keep both JBL's on half volume, and I never put the Head on full. It has the same specs as using a 4x10" and frankly it sounds the same to me. The head isn't powerful either... its only 200w.

I guess if there is a plausible reason that it would actually blow the speakers, I could run it through a mixer as well.

Do you really see the reason for getting an 8x10" cab?

Each member of the band has a stack. Marshall stack, Orange stack, and then I have my PA speakers. They just think it looks really unprofessional. So i was gunna build a lightweight enclosure that I could just throw them into to make it look like a 2x15" cab. I want the sound on stage with me so I can hear myself. If i put it all through the house PA, there's no way my band is gunna hear me on stage.

and... I've never really seen a band bring in their own PA to a show.

Thanks a lot endo for backing me up on the PA idea
