Re: How Many Unsigned Bands Have Made An Impact?
If you are against being on the radio, then don't consider music as a career - make it a hobby. When you work in a bank, you probably have to wear a tie if you are male and are required to be there on time, be curteous to customers, and of course follow the banks rules. If you don't like those rules, you have the option of working in a different field or probably be fired. Being a total non-conformist is cool, just don't expect to have much of a chance making a living with it.
The things that have driven the music industry have been live performance, radio, tv.... so if they don't want to be on the radio what else do they have? Radio and tv is sort of intertwined in the business model these days... that leaves performance.. if no one has heard you, will they pay to see you? If they sign you, rest assured they will want to recoup their investment. Unless you "have it" and everyone already loves you, chances are you and your songs needs some work to make it a product...
