Grocery clerk sues Green Day

A grocery store clerk is suing Green Day, claiming he wrote the song "American Idiot" almost 15 years ago.

His claim seems pretty dubious, though.

Oh, I don't know. The song isn't that bad. It's not a "My Hump" or whatever. It's still a catchy song even if something about it screams "The Go Gos" to me.

I think the irony of this is there are quite a few songs that sound like this. The verse with the guitar that breaks down for vocal lines type of thing is a cliche heard in a million songs. Now the chorus is not nearly as cliched, but.....

Why would Green Day need to steal a song from a grocery clerk? If they wanted to use other material they could just pay the guy that wrote all the Backstreet Boy hits to do their writing.

Yeah, I really don't think anyone will accuse Green Day of being "innovators" (and think that's okay).
