Gotye - Somebody That I Used To Know (feat. Kimbra)
I'm not sure what the hell this is, but it's the most badass thing I've heard in a LONG time. It's somehow lo-fi and hi-fi at the same time. Whatever. It's got to be the best f'ing chorus I've heard in years. (Rather Peter Gabriel-like )
The video is probably the best $7 video in existence....up there with the Daft Punk thing.
The only thing that sucks is I REALLY wish this video had 60 plays and not 60,000,000. Oh well, I choose to believe that this is entirely our Aussie friends and NO ONE in the states is listening. (Why this is important eludes me.)

Yep, this song is pretty amazing. Funny thing is it was never a radio or chart hit....stirred up a storm on youtube though. I dont how but the chorus is insanely awesome. They only added like 1 extra chord from the verse but it makes it soar...

Chord quantity has never had any direct correlation to awesomeness....except maybe the fewer the better.
Awesomeness is always caused by mega melody. Plain and simple.

Most of here would like to know why. I'm not sure what it is that lights up the brain with a piece of noise and propels a person to stake their reputation on it by emailing their friends. Even the ultra big guys (Elton John, Bon Jovi, Elvis, etc) only seem to do it maybe 20 times in a lifetime and that's with the system behind them.

Well kiss my ass. What are the odds that a group of people could play that well, sing that well, AND stumble upon a gimmick of using one instrument for 7 instruments? Pretty damn amazing!

Maybe not in the US (yet? - but that's up to you guys, maybe). Over here in Aus, it was the biggest hit of 2011 - won a swag of awards at the ARIA's (our "Grammy's), & was voted #1 song of the year in Triple J's "Hottest 100".
The lesson that most of us RR homerecording guys should take from this is that Wally de Backer (aka Goyte) is one of us. He does it in his home studio with a Macbook & a few pretty basic tools common to most of us... So great ideas & melodies can really make a difference.

It is getting some airplay on the philly radio but not new york, cause there are no good radio stations in NYC thanks to clear channel live nation and infinity. I have seen the video on TV a little but I don't watch much. Way cool song though, the first time I saw it was when someone else sent a link to me on facebook. The power of the interweb. He's touring everywhere around the world right now. Canada and Australia are more into finding music on youtube than in the US. I think in the US we are better trained to like more commercial stuff.
Oh wow, lol I never saw that. And to think I could've got there earlier and been more of a hipster. At that point it probably only had like 20m views or something :P

Right! (sarcasm) Us American have ALL kinds of control over the music we are exposed to, our foreign policy, etc. Cheap food makes us complacent. Cheap internet and a few friends who are looking expose us to great music. I just wish the music industry lobbyists had a clue and weren't former Pepsi VPs or whatever.

Damn it, fHumble fHingaz!
You RUINED IT. Now I have to rationalize this the same way I do in order to like Pink and Katy Perry. Alright done. That wasn't that hard, I guess.

He's got one tool I can't buy. I've been mutilating this song with my voice for the past 3 days.
His setup is pretty awesome. All nice stuff, but nothing crazy. Just another example of gear being really stupid. I've got more fun toys than this guy. Where's my Aussie Grammy?

I'm in love with this song... when I first heard it, I swear I almost started crying. The duet was performed with such conviction and emotion, and it was quite moving. An excellent song.

Well, I heard this on the radio here in the States. Bla! I liked it better when it was my little secret (along with 60,000,000 friends in faraway lands). Oh well, the fact that the mystique is gone doesn't change how freakin' badass this thing is.
