So I know all you vocalists have heard about all these different drinks which will help your vocal chords, before and after singing. The most common is water, and it's probably the most effective of those that I've heard. The list includes milk (coats your throat in a thick flim), coffee (hot hurts sometimes), hot chocolate (hot hurts sometimes), tea (hot and cold, it helps, but not very well), grape juice (fruit juice always kinda burns... acidity), theraflu (so nasty, and too hot), ice cream (i like this one :]), and pretty much everything you could possibly name, from hot to cold. You've also probably heard to never drink orange juice (well this one is true. i've done it. not a good plan). Well after numerous trial and errors, I've finally come up with the perfect drink. It's worked every time I've tried it. It actually increases my vocal range astonishingly. I've gone from hitting a high F# to an Ab just from ****ing up a little and drinking this. Unsurprisingly, it's very close to the most common and most helpful of the drinks listed above. It's inexpensive, tastes great, and you won't believe what it can do. The drink is... Kool-Aid. Yes, I'm serious. Try it. If you're recording someones vocals, make them a pitcher and have it in your studio waiting for them. It has about the same effect as water, but a little better. The taste from it kinda coats your throat a bit, and eases the stress and pain on it, and then still has the effects water has, since it's mostly water anyway. Also, it tastes so much better than water, and you can drink more easily. From my experience, the two best flavors are the purple and red (grape and watermelon i think?). Vocalists, if you don't believe me, try it. Seriously, it's like magic. |

I have to disagree with every single one of those recommendations. Thick drinks are bad for vocals as well as sugar. sugar=throat irritation and muscle tightening Dairy=Evil Caffeine=dehydration and stomach acid Milk = phlegm coffee = caffeine = dehydration + phlegm hot chocolate = possible burned tongue/mouth + phlegm Tea = dehydration or dry mouth, exception would be mint green tea, which can help sooth grape juice = probably too thick and too much sugar. ice cream = too thick and too much sugar, will make you feel better, but will make the throat worse. Kool-aid = too much sugar! it will dry out your mouth! stick to room temperature water during singing. If you have problems with mouth noises (like clicks or lip smacking) have some apple juice. Sports drinks (like gatorade) are much better, they keep you hydrated. Don't get the super sugary ones. If your throat is fucked up from screaming drink Throat-Coat to repair it. Before you damage your throat get some education. Here, read this: What To Do When The Singer Can't Sing I uploaded this just for you. |

I thought the tannins in tea and grape juice/ wine were bad for the throat. I remember an opera singer saying that he never drank wine before a performance because of it. Afterwards, yes. I thought whiskey was the choice of working pros. Last edited by P.P.T.; 04-10-2009 at 02:10 AM. |

and you can choose how much sugar koolaid has when you make it? so if you think the sugary drinks are bad, then don't put any sugar in... and this was mainly as a joke... but with truth behind it. |

| well... wouldn't the acid from the lemons be bad? for the same reason orange juice is a no no?
