Default Don't Let The RIAA Ruin Your Band

Here's a band promotion article I wrote entitled:

<a href="http://www.recordingreview.com/artic...and">Don't Let The RIAA Ruin Your Band </a>

It discusses why the aggressive philosophies applied by the RIAA don't apply to the average band releasing their own record.

This is good information. I totally agree. Free downloads are the greatest thing to ever happen to unsigned artists.

In the past, there simply weren't any ways to get your music out there without doing sampler cds. Now online, you can get way more exposure. You just have to make sure that it's in an area fairly near to you.

Yeah I find so much good music for free....sometimes I wonder if all music could be free someday (what I mean is not make people millionaires but pay someting to people who try) and the big boys will turn it over to us little bottom feeders......

The only problem with all music being free is there is no way to weed out the crap from the good stuff.

What about the lost of CD sales though? I agree that free music is great for the underdogs, but what about the big bands, I guess though they already make a plenty. I think there is going to have to be some change in the industry in the future.

The article wasn't intended for managers of major label bands. They are way on top of the music business than I am. The article was intended for the average local band trying to gain a following.

Lost cd sales? I would argue that cd sales increase with a generous marketingn plan. I've never liked a band I haven't heard and I've certainly never bought their cd. I don't understand where you expect these cd sales to come from. How is limiting their exposure going to help a local band's cause? If an unsigned band could play for 200,000 and not get paid for it, should they do it? Are they getting ripped off by not getting paid? I'd argue the exposure is exposure regardless of whether it directly or indirectly pays the bills.
