Unfortunately it's not officially over. While it's good to see some backtracking ( Is Auto-Tune Killing The Music Industry? | Tha Good Life Reviews - WE DO MUSIC.), there are still CDs coming out with Auto-Tune as an effect, but ever so slightly. Case in Point: . Black Eyed Peas - "Boom Boom Pow" (2009) Courtesy A&M Records -- When the Black Eyed Peas decided to revisit the futuristic sounds of electro, they brought Auto-Tune along to drench their vocals in a mechanistic, robotic wash. The result is a smash chart-topping pop single. IMHO, it's been so over-used as an effect that it got to be cheesy, kind of like those disco tom drums in the last 70's. The icing on the cake that killed that trend was probably Bad Company's "Rock N Roll Fantasy" with those disco drums, or KISS' "I Was Made for Loving You."

It seems like everybody is using this crap. Heck even Avenged Sevenfold uses it now. I can't stand it. I just always thought it was for people who can't sing. Anyway, a lot of today's music just sounds artificial. I guess that doesn't matter if your just going to lip sync live.

My sons' band continues to use it (they're 16 years old in a regionally popular original metal christian band), but I keep telling them they'll regret it come next year. One or two songs is probably fine, but every other song is just heading down the road of cheeze!
