Default CD Blanks for recording

I burned a CD a few years back...actually it was a nature recording. People have been buying it! Well someone wrote me and said hers was defective, it wouldn't play a track.

I wonder if she played it on one of those old standalone CD players? Mine is from the 90s and will only play commercially produced CDs.

Well I have been buying my CD blanks at Target and I'm sure they're just "consumer-grade" quality. I'd really like to upgrade. Problem is, I'm not even sure where to get "high quality" CD blanks.

Is there a higher grade of CD blank I can get that will be guaranteed to play on all kinds of players? What kind do 'pro's use? What are the parameters I need to look for to know if a CD blank will be reliable?

I have found that that are made for data dont play music well
the format is not made for music

and I you can dont let them scan your cds with a magnet
some times it will wipe the format or cause pops in the music
or will not play on some players

again memorex cd-r music is what I use

You can't guarantee anything will play on old players. I have to "come to the rescue" on occasions at work to create a disc that will play on the older players in the school. I usually buy Maxell, Memorex or Sony, and find all give good compatibility. I always recommend branded discs, but avoid HP.
HHB discs are good (but I think a little pricey).

All in all, its not the discs, as you are not storing music on a disc technically, you are storing code comprised o zeros and ones that the machine decodes and interprets through its converters into music. To a CD, its all data. The issue is the format you are using. Some players don't read .MP3, .SDII, or .AIFF. Usually you are safe with a .wav format, but you never know. Better quality CDs basically produce less coasters and bad burns becuase they are better balanced and spin more consistenly. That being said, stickers and labels on discs can mess them up if you aren't carefull...

I could possibly fill the top of my subwoofer with the bad burns I've made... in my entire life.

Despite the massive increase in the processing power of our computers since home recording onto CD became a reality, I still practice something that was necessary then... I don't ask my computer to be doing anything else. When I burn a CD, I consider my computer to be out of action for the 3 or 4 minutes that it takes. I close all other applications, and just let it burn the disc.

That, the cleanness of my system and good quality discs (even when bought in bulk) is why I think I've had hardly any bad burns.
