Default The Band

I've always liked The Band, but I've just begun to realize just how brilliant they all were. I would rank them up there with Zepplin, the Stones, and even the Beatles in terms of musical genius, yet they seem to be so underappreciated. Most people only know "Cripple Creek" or "The Weight," and they have no idea who the Band really is.

"The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down" is an amazing song if you actually listen to it. The harmonies and emotions in the song are perfectly expressed. It is one of the best yet least recognized songs, at least in my opinion.

What do you guys think?

Tyler,
We we're trying to get outta Arkansas (fast) the other night and I tell the wife I would like to find ol Levon Helms and pay respects since we we're in the neighborhood. It was late (or early) and it seemed like a good idea. Helms is my favorite singing drummer, and one of the only people on the planet with nads enough to tell Bobby Dylan to fuck off. Later I found Cripple Creek on the radio and we were digging his voice.

Weird!

Man, I absolutely love The Band. I just watched that old film called "The Festival Express" today as a matter of fact. Has anyone here seen it? If not, you really should try to see it. It's basically a documetation of a train trip that The Band, Janis Joplin, The Grateful Dead and a bunch of other bands took through Canada back in the 70s on a concert tour. They did most of the really great jam while on the train. It's awesome to watch.

Brandon, don't tell me you've never heard to anything by The Band!! Now you are just gonna' have to sit down and listen to a little. It does not matter what type of music you are into, I think you will agree that they are a great band.

I've heard of "The Band", but that's about the extent of it. My download just finished so maybe I can give it a listen later on today. The Who documentary is almost fully downloaded as well, so I should be expanding my horizons in the next week quite a bit.
