Default Re: Resonators?

Here is a very nice bottleneck blues song (video) from Bob Brozman played on National Tricone resonator. It is in open G tuning. there are some other videos of Bob Brozman on YouTube, some are lacking in quality, I haven't had a chance to see them all (my connection is too slow).

It is a fairly simple song, it's not as easy as it looks to get such a clear tone. Brozman is a master of technique and one of the best resonator guitar players in the world.Anyhow this is a nice sample of basic bottleneck blues on a tricone resonator. I hope I posted the link properly. If not the name of the clip is Bob Brozman on the Guitar Show, song 3:

That was 'Full Screen' if it doesn't work try this:

Here is another one I think you will like. He is demonstrating some drumming techniques he uses (drumming on the tricone guitar). Bob Brozman puts on quite an impressive show in live performances and I think he is booked solid for a couple of years in advance. Anyhow I may post one more after this one:

I think I made a mistake on that last URL and the video didn't play out so here is a different link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q2p52JNcbDc

Just thought I'd jump in with the comment... DON'T USE EXCESSIVELY HEAVY STRINGS! the cone needs to vibrate, too much downforce limits this...

it responds better strung with 013's than 015's...

Wow! I feel like I've earned a degree in Resonators! Awesome rundown.

I've been meaning to pick one up myself and dabble around with it.

Coincidentally, I mixed a resonator track this morning that I recorded in stereo using 2 Royer R121 in a blumlein congif. Sounded lovely It was a single cone National from the 30s.
