Default Good banjo's?

Hey, does anyone know some good brands for banjo's? I'm looking to buy one, and I can sort of play a few chords, but I have no clue what good brands are and which ones to stay away from. It's it's really friggin' hard to find someone who knows a lot a bout banjo's at your average music store.

Thanks,
Tyler

what can you spend on one?

Deering makes one of the fstest playing Banjos on the market... i also happen to think they sound great!

now Gibson cost an arm and a leg and is not as nice as Deering IMO

now also a company that makes great stuff is Gold Tone they have some great prices lots of choices and are easy to get new parts to work with them if you want to upgrade the sucker! have Deering send you the package they ship out to everybody
it will teach you how to buy a banjo what to look for and how to tell what is right for the kind of music you play.

I can probably spend anywhere from $200 to $500, but hopefully no higher.

check out ebay or flea markets,a vintage "vega", or "ome", would be a way better choice that a brand new banjo made in china. a good banjo is heavy.
what about this for ex: http://cgi.ebay.com/Vega-Wonder-5-St...QQcmdZViewItem

You should check to see if there is a consignment music shop near you. I used to buy my stuff at pawn shops and sometimes still do, but I just discovered this consignement music store here and they have all kinds of great stuff.
