My first instrument was a small organ. I wouldn't exactly call it an instrument. It was supposedly real, but it sounded like a toy compare to the one my friend had. My second instrument was an acoustic guitar.

My first instrument was a small yamaha keyboard that spanned maybe 2 octaves. I had it when I was like 6 and was playing single note songs like silent night by ear. I played that everyday for about a year. For some reason this was not reason enough for my parents to say, "hey let's put him in classes." Now I'm stuck trying to learn in the world of music when I could have had years of a head start.

Seemed nice place for a first post.

First instrument I actually bought was the Yamaha tenor sax I saved up ?800 for. The first instrument I owned was my selmer Clarinet, which was given to me aged 11 from my father, nd the first thing I played was my grandfathers ancient keyboard, with keys appox 1/3 the size of a piano....
Mind you, have been constantly surrouned by instruments, inc. acousitic guitar, violin, numerous melodeons+ accordions+concertinas, various permuations of recorder, piano, bits of percussion, and just lately a trumpet and a mandolin. Not enough hours in the day, unfortunately....
Anyone else considering the possibilites of rock clarinet?

The first instrument I've ever owned was a viola. It was purchased from a pawn shop for me to be a part of the school orchestra. Very good memories.

I did a gig with a group here at the end of last year that used a rock oboe, rock french horn as well as the more popular rock trumpet and rock trombone. Their regular set up has rock violin and rock cello.

I've tried to get the same oboe player to play funk oboe in my band, but so far to no avail.
