Default Anything goes. Even Accordions?

The last two instruments I bought were a cello and a full sized piano accordion- 120 bass or chord buttons and 41 keys. I have always thought those were cool and finally I got one. It is basically like an air powered keyboard, with lots of reeds.

I have noticed a bit of accordion accompanyment from time to time in popular music, blues etc. Then of course there is that crazy cajun Zydeco stuff from Louisiana :-)

when I was searching the web for a fingering chart for the button side of the accordion I found an Accordion rock and roll band from the San Francisco Bay area and I think they are pretty far out so I thought I would post a link to their site.

Check out their song samples! (and photos) You might be surprized:

I was just listening to a couple of 'Those Darn Accordions' (or aka 'TDA') tracks again. My favorite is 'I Think About Stuff' I like that song!

If you are wondering about how they get some of the cool sounds from the accordions, here is a clip from the 'About TDA' link:

Quote:
The six-piece group -- fronted by lead singer/squeezebox wizard Paul Rogers and bellows-pumping babes Carri Abrahms, Susie Davis and Suzanne Garramone -- promises to forever rearrange your understanding of the accordion. TDA's four extreme squeezeboxers mix solid keyboard chops with a groundbreaking use of guitar effects pedals and amps to produce a super-cool sound like nothing you've ever heard emanating from an accordion.

Thanks for the link. I'm getting ready to finish up a big project and one of the cuts has accordian. I am using samples but they are good, I just need to listen to some real playing so I can get an idea of how the accordian breathes so I can add the controllers in a realistic manner.

The only other time I used accordian was when a buddy of mine was storing things at my studio and one of them was an accordian... It was way cool but out of tune with everything else. We ended up using it on a track and I had to use the digi pitch shift to bring it in... no one noticed...

I was expecting to hear something from The Godfather. This instrument is capable of a lot more than I thought!

You don't get to hear "expressive" Accordion players that often in pop music. It's kind of cool. It's like a keyboard, an organ, and something else.

Thanks for posting!

Last year my city entered the Guiness Book of World Records with the largest accordion ensemble - 989 people simultaneously played "Mussels in the Corner".

Most of these would have been the small squeezeboxes though.
