I hate the way excessive limiting crushes the breadth out of a vocal, vis a vis the choruses.
As far as the mix goes, it's very good.

Thanks for the tracks Kakeux! I'm not sure what to say about what I did. I just wanted it fat, dirty and loud. I ended up editing out the re-intro before the second verse, because I'm an impatient a-hole.

i like the "phatness" youve achieved with it and the mix sounds pretty good to me.
One thing i would mention is that the vocals don't take me anywhere, they are pretty stationary and not very exciting, even though everything else you have done is.
Listening on my system,i cant hear much of the other vocals tracks, sounds like you may have only used one? or maybe two,but at a very low volume?
The other vocal tracks may have made the vocals side of things alot more enjoyable,or even some effects on the vocal tracks you did use.
As i think that the vocals/lyrics are the main thing that draw people to liking a song,so its pretty important.
They are my thoughts anyways, other than that i think its a pretty groovy mix.
Cheers

You can only learn music,by listening to music.Let the frequencies flow.
Interesting take on this song. Lots of power and I think it's pretty cool the way you focus on the bass line, especially in the verses. That being said, and this just being personal opinion, you could have left a little more of the disto bass line blended with the cleaner one during the bridge - would have made for a nice tie-in. This is a pretty compressed mix, which sounds good on this tune for the most part. The only place i really noticed it not working particularly well was in the choruses - kind of squashed the harmony vocals into near-nonexistence.
Man, your tones are good, and like I said, you got a lot of power in this mostly through your kick/bass treatment. Nice job!![]()

Gnarly bass! Nice! I love the contrast between the verses & choruses - lots of impact - the mix getting bigger, wider. Another thing that is cool is the tone you got out of the distorted guitars... They have an almost "delicate" high end to them (& I mean that as a compliment). I haven't really heard that sound on any mixes apart from Eric Valentine's mixes on the last Slash album - it sounds classy & "expensive".
The only thing I wasn't really keen on was the drum sound, but that's really just a personal taste issue, because it works really well, has an bold, individual tone & fits the mix you created around it.
Top job!

many cool things here. that bass sounds ANGRY! i like your guitar sounds and they are very well balanced together with good presence.
i am not so in favor of the kit sound, the playing is a bit static as tracked and i feel the drum sound you have chosen emphasis that.
also, the vocals sounds a bit squeezed... i lack some dynamics there. part from that this mix sounds great.

Hi,
Again one different take!
I just think the vocals aren't upfront enough...Apart from that, everything will be compltely subjective and taste related.
Good Job!

Raw! The intro really sets another tone compared to the other mixes so far. I think it worksThere's a consistent feel to the mix. My comment would be that this mix feels really squashed though, especially during the chorus. I like the way the soundscape widens in the chorus but due to the heavy compression some of the other dimensions are lost and the mix feels a bit thin and flat.
Shit i thought i commented on this one already! sounds good man. I like the creative elements. Just a bit of excess high energy. If i had my greedy dickbeaters on this mix, id be looking to low pass it down to about 14.5k immediately. Its not bad by any means, just workin on me a little.
Compression sounds good. Just needs to come down a tiny bit. A little bit over compressed compared to the bigtime stuff...so what did i do? compressed the hell out of my own mix! Dont ask me why
Lastly id like to hear a bit more power from the drums. They sound good and are cared for nicely, i just think a better drum sound could set the track off.
Very nice job all in all man. Mostly nit picks on my end. This aint your first dance. I do know that.
hey man everything is all powerful and sitting smack in front of me right from the beginning. it is especially noticeable in the voice it is flat throughout the whole song. no wonder you are cutting parts out and are impatient because you have already had desert by the time the first chorus starts. dynamics in a song is not necessarily the volume of the overall song but the volume individual elements and by allowing those some space to breathe the interest is increased. this is probably stuff you know better than i do and you just wanted to make this song smack in your face kind of song. if that is the case you have achieved it. everything is sounding good. tracks are positioned nicely and i don't mind the cutting in fact cut more if that is what it takes to make this song move people.

I agreee with Patrich, that bass does sound fuckin ANGRY!!! The mix sounds really good but something is catching my ear. I had to listen a couple of times because I just couldn't put my finger on it the first time but I think the compression level here is the culprit. The high end on this mid sounds very dense, if that makes sense. Like it is an all out war on my ears, after the first minute or so it became a bit irritating, like the high end of the guitars, the snare and the vox together, most notably in the last chorus section, is just pushed to hard. Other than that the mix is really good man, just ease off that limiter some more, even if just tamed down the first 2/3 of the mix so that you leave my ears intact enough to rape in the last sectionGreat mix.
well this doesn't sound like weezer anymore till the chorus hits. Than it sounds like a mosquito at a Weezer concert.
since that mosquito is part of the mix, great job at keeping it subtle.
There's some mud around 250-500...
hi well i really like the vocals. really solid. not sure about the drums and bass especially the verses. sounds too much really for the song. kinda works better in the choruses though. the bridge really pops out. maybe a bit too much. really like the heavy guitars though. rocks out nicely especially after the bridge. good job with that. but i think to the detriment of the vocal clarity a bit. kudos for trying out something different and making it your own. well done.
Great sound and great work man
I don't really have things to add for you except this one. I think your bass sound is too "heavy" () compare to other elements. It eats too much room for me. And at the end, the song looks bass and vocal song (I'm not really I said what I would :
)
I hope you'll get the point![]()
Damn!. That bass. XD
Good vocals. My only comment is for the levels on the bass and drums, just to have them on their place and not too hot on the front.
Other than that, I think it's a well-done heavy mix.
Very cool job RB,
I love how the mix widens up during the chorus. The drums are different and I am not too sure the snare fits the rest of the feel, but really that is highly subjective. The vocals sound quite good, perhaps a little thin in the chorus. As you have quite high gain (best hi gain guitars I've heard so far I reckon) that dominates in the chorus, the vocals don't quite cut through as well as they could, although they are in no way obscured. Still, I'd automate some eq curves to thicken one or two vocal tracks, or the bus as a whole to have it have more fatness like you aimed for.
Overall, you have balanced fat sounds with borderline harsh highs to create a very full mix. You have ridden the balance well as many have made their mixes too bright with those guitars.
Good work!![]()
Rules do not belong in music. Like food, there are flavours that work well together, but in the end, it's each person's taste that determines the quality of the meal.
Solid mix man, nice and powerful and dirty, vocals seem pretty buried in the choruses, but other than that all your instrumentals sound awesome. The snare build into the last chorus feels like it could use a quick boost to 250 hz to give it some meat while it's exposes like that perhaps, but other than that, this is Top shelf
I initially thought I'd go super dark and heavy with this mix but couldn't get it happening. This is about as close to what I had originally wanted to do as I've heard yet.

Last one for tonight. Good mix!
I felt the that bass had a little too much crunch for this genre. Good tone for a more metal mix, but in this track, especially with the clean guitars in there, it has a droning quality to it. Automating in the distortion for when the chorus kicks in isn't a bad idea. I wasn't the biggest fan of the snare sample chosen. It just has that sound that screams "Sample!". It sounds like there are phase issues with the distorted rhythm guitar? The vocals get a little lost in the last chorus. Bring down the guitars might have helped (2-3 db). Either that or small cuts on the guitar bus at 2khz to 4khz would have helped the vocals remain on top without competition from the guitars.
Good mix!

Thanks for the comments! This forum has been such an education. Listening back now after a break - maybe too angry of a mix? You guys are right, and I wish I had pushed the BGs a little more. I think I went to far with that bass.
Thanks! On to July!
Yo ridyBeatle,
--You definatly nailed the Fat, Dirty and Loud. If you could have nailed the dynamic aspect, Whoo-aa ! It is possable that you could have taken the crown this month.Good Job, Jojo
" Where has all the truncated audio gone ? Dithered but not forgotten. "
Hey man! Just listening as I type. Pretty big sounding mix. I hear a little bit of 'crushing' going on, likely due to the comp/limiting. Its really showing up on the snare and the vocal on my setup. It's the kind of crushing that can work for certain songs/genres, I just don't think this is one of them. Personal taste I guess. Guitars sound REALLY good though. Bass is actually sounding really good on my setup too. Kudos for that!I was surprised that at that considering the limiting. I'm also hearing some dominate upper mids and harshness in the overheads that could be toned down a bit, but overall, it's a good sounding mix that just needs a few pretty minor tweaks to really polish it off. Good stuff dude!
