Clapton has become more polished as a songwriter over the years but his guitar playing was never very interesting after Derek and the Dominoes.

In general, younger artists seem more willing to take chances, break rules, do something different whereas older artists have honed their skills to a high degree and produce highly polished works generally within their genre.

Enthusiasm is probably the wrong word. Hungry might be closer to the truth. Young artists tend to be hungrier in many senses of the word and I think some established players become complacent and turn out complacent work.

I don't think age is a barrier to anything except in areas of music where image is as important or more important than the music.
what I think I wanted to say is , it is importantantto stay relevant and in touch. People's attn. spans are awfully short. I have lots of responses. We will see if I have all the answers, won't we?

It's very cool to do difficult and scary creative stuff.

I was at a party a few weeks ago, meeting new people, and I kind of realised halfway through the evening that everyone around me was talking about what their kids were doing, and I was talking about what I was doing. Then again, count the number of people who reckon they were into metal back in the day, but "grew out of it" - an awful lot of people go all responsible and grown up at some point, and forget that they can have teenage fun and do creative things right the way into their wrinkly years and beyond.

Never give up, never surrender. I'll give up when my hands fall off.

Wrinkly years.

I've had a couple of those. Guess I should have stayed out of the pool more.

There is more and more talk of collaboration going on here in the forums these days. I think that is nothing but an awesome thing.

Let me see if I can talk with the powers that be about making a section of the forum just for this sort of work. It could be a great thing for those who are interested.

I'm still waiting for a finished chorus part to a certain song so I can put drunken vocals to it.... hahaha

DRUNKEN VOCALS!!! Accidently played a drunken gig once... Luckily everyone there was drunker than I... And I've played the songs in my setlists so many damn times I could pass out and still play them... Don't know how well, just sayin.

Fair enough.

I always thought GD surfed in on the last wave of the Grunge thing.

I took my 12 year old daughter to see them 3 years ago and there was nothing "punk" about the show.

"Punk" is too broad. I consider Sun Ra punk, but I really am old and useless.

Here is some more "punk", and from a geriatric to boot!

YouTube - Worst music video ever

I suspect you're right. For the sake of my future music collection I hope so.
- I'm just having a hard time finding examples to prove myself wrong.

I agree its more polished as they get older but its the more "groundbreaking" stuff that gets me interested and therefore that is the stuff I would consider "best".

That's the problem for me. If we were swimming in examples it would be easy to create a huge list. I couldn't think of any - only people that had the odd "return to form" album - couldn't think of a better way of expressing that.

Exactly - it would be great to have both

Hungry is probably a better word. I don't have the longest attention span so that might be why I think a lot of older artists can be a little boring to listen to (for me) - as you said, some of them become complacent and lose that hunger for new sounds.
